What to expect
Your first visit in four steps
Your appointment is organized to give the dental team a clear picture of your oral health and give you time to understand the findings.
Paperwork
Share your contact details, dental and medical history, medications, insurance information, and current concerns.
Exam & records
Your provider reviews your history, examines your teeth and gums, and takes appropriate digital X-rays when needed.
Cleaning
When clinically appropriate, your hygienist removes plaque and tartar and provides personalized home-care guidance.
Your plan
The team explains its findings, answers questions, and outlines recommended care, priorities, timing, and estimated costs.
A visit built around you
What happens during the appointment?
Your first visit begins with a review of your dental and medical history. This helps the team identify factors that may affect your teeth, gums, comfort, or treatment recommendations.
A clinical examination evaluates the teeth, gums, bite, existing dental work, and areas of concern. Digital X-rays and an oral cancer screening may be recommended based on your age, history, symptoms, and previous records.
If your gums are healthy and the schedule allows, a professional cleaning may be completed at this visit. When additional care is needed, your provider will explain the options before treatment begins.
